Technical Brief: SimplySnap DMX Wireless Controller

Streamlining Zone-Based Color Control and DMX512 Output for Architectural Luminaires

The SimplySnap DMX Wireless Controller addresses this pain point by bringing wireless SNAP mesh networking directly to DMX512-compatible architectural luminaires. Operating alongside a SimplySnap Site Controller (Model SS450/CBS), this solution allows facility operators to integrate static or scene-based color control into their existing wireless lighting control ecosystem without installing dedicated control cabling.

Unlike conventional DMX setups that rely on a continuous data stream from a central lighting console, the SimplySnap Site Controller functions as a network gateway that sends periodic zone-level updates over the SNAP mesh. Upon receiving a network update, the local wireless controller translates the command and continuously generates local DMX512 frame outputs at a ~44 Hz refresh rate using the most recent update levels. Standard configurations map output across Channel 1 (Red), Channel 2 (Green), and Channel 3 (Blue), converting channel values from 0 to 255 into 0–100% light output. Custom channel mappings can also be evaluated based on fixture requirements.

The controller is powered via a hard-wired 120VAC input and connects to lighting fixtures using a 2-wire DMX+/- pigtail interface, with standard DMX termination required. Because all luminaires wired to a single controller share synchronized output levels, facility teams can easily manage entire architectural zones through the SimplySnap management interface.
